Fred Terwilliger Jr. 84 of Harrison, Michigan formerly of Alma, Michigan, died on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Chapel Gardens, Elwell, Michigan. Officiating are, Mr. Mark Salchert, Mr. Bill Terwilliger, and Mr. Denny Terwilliger. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28, 2006 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Fred was born on October 18, 1921 in Alma, Michigan, the son of Frederick and Hannah ( Mowry ) Terwilliger Sr. He attended Alma schools and resided most of his life in Alma, MI until moving to Harrison 22 years ago. On July 25, 1942 he married Pauline Smith in St. Louis, Michigan.

Fred served his country in the 101st Airborne Division during WW II. He retired from the Alma Post Office in 1983 after many years as a postal carrier. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He loved to play cribbage, horseshoes, and having a good time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Alma VFW, and was the Harrison American Legion post chaplain.

Survivors include his wife Pauline Terwilliger of Harrison, Michigan, 1 daughter, Janice & Tom Salchert of Blanchard, Michigan, 2 sons, Lyle & Nancy Terwilliger of Alma, Michigan, Tom Terwilliger of St. Louis, Michigan, 7 grandchildren, Aaron & Jen Leonard, Joseph Leonard, Scott Terwilliger, Jamie Terwilliger, Casey Terwilliger, Thomas B. Terwilliger, & Elijah Terwilliger, 3 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Bill & Vivian Terwilliger of Alma, Michigan, Carl & Mary Lou Terwilliger of Vestaburg, Michigan, Denny Terwilliger of St. Louis, Michigan, 1 sister, Mary Clark of St. Louis, Michigan, caregiver & special family friend, Linda Fairchild of Harrison, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers Jerry, Lyle, Richard, and Jim and 1 sister Helen.

Memorials may be made to the Mid-Michigan Hospice program. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
