Frederick "Fred" Junior Flegel, age 88, of Perrinton, Michigan died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living, Alma, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bill Dye officiating. Burial will take place at Fulton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. and on Monday, November 17, 2014 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, Michigan. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at the funeral home.
Fred was born in Ithaca, Michigan on May 20, 1926, the son of Frederick W. and Leora (Hattis) Flegel. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1945. Fred served his country in the US Army as a Corporal in the Korean War.
On August 9, 1952 he married Bernice Marie (Smith) Flegel in Edgewood, Michigan. Bernice died on June 16, 2007. Fred retired from Commercial National Bank after 35 years of service and was the President at the Middleton Branch for many years. He enjoyed golfing and hunting camp. Bernice and Fred enjoyed traveling in their motor home around the country. He was a member of the Alma VFW Post and the Masonic Lodge, Carson City, Michigan. He was also a member of the Perrinton United Methodist Church.
He is survived by son, Greg and Elaine Flegel of Houghton Lake, MI; daughter, Denise Curtis and Rob Torres of Carson City, MI; son, Randy and Diane Flegel of Ithaca, MI; 8 grandchildren, Rick Green, Monica and Jon Kiser, Patrick and Bethann McPherson, Vicki and Steve Edgington, Sarah and Andy Baumann, Laura Curtis, Alicia Flegel, Erica Flegel and Scott Paterson, 8 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaylee Ann, Rylinn, Graysen, Evan, Eliza, Jackson, Eli, brother, Mervin and Valerie Flegel and his special friend, Joanne Pierce.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, 3 sisters, Marjorie, Ila, Vesta, 2 brothers, Wayne, Lyle.
Memorials may be made to the Perrinton United Methodist Church.
