Gala White
Gala Ann White, age 74, of Corunna, MI passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor David Strobe will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service from 11:00-1:00 PM.
Gala was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 13, 1937, the daughter of Gerald and Katherine (Bursik) Fairbanks. She was a graduate of Owosso High School and resided most of her life in Shiawassee County. Gala married S. Ford White on September 3, 1955 in Owosso, MI which united them in a very special bond. He passed away on September 2, 2009 and was the true love of Gala's life.
Gala retired from the Durand School System as a secretary and was instrumental in her work for Adult Education. Gala also formed a community service organization that was a crisis center and referral service. She was an avid reader and writer. Gala helped to start the Shiawassee Scribblers, a writing group. She had a great sense of humor and just enjoyed life. Gala was also a pet lover. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Gala was very involved in the Shiawassee County Democratic Club and was named as Volunteer of the Year. She became known as 'Tessie Swackhammer' and gave many talks at various political functions. She also wrote many newspaper columns on political affairs for many years and was a contributing writer to the Argus Press.
She is survived by her two sons; David White of Corunna, MI, Tim and Hua Yang White of Holland, MI, granddaughter Carissa White, brother Dick Fairbanks of Owosso, MI, niece Claudia Fairbanks of Owosso, MI, and grand niece Kimberly Fritzsche. Gala was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
