Gale Wesley Varco, age 81, of Saint Helen, MI passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at The Horizon Senior Living, St. Helen, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. Pastor Doug Stockwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday October 1, 2010 from 2-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
Gale was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 17, 1928, the son of Floyd Wilson and Opal Frances (Aldrich) Varco. Gale's parents owned and operated the F & O Grill later known as Satellite Bar. Gale lived in Owosso moving to Hazel Park in 1966 then to West Branch and then back to Owosso. Gale married Patricia on January 15, 1966; she passed away July 6, 1997.
Gale retired from Chrysler Corporation December 31, 1989. He worked as a Head Quality Control Inspector at the Warren Stamping Plant. He loved traveling in his motor home, where he made many friends. Gale was a member of the Eagles for over 30 years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952.
He is survived by 2 sons: Gregory Varco and Richard & Connie Varco; daughter Deborah and Doug Meyers, step-children; Terry & Kay Chatman, Terry Lynn & John Klatt, Diane & John Kornell, Lester & Beth Berry, 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, twin brother Dale Varco and sister Barbara Rulason. Gale is also survived by many nieces & nephews. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Calvin, granson Taylor and great-granddaughter Brandi.
