Galen Bashore age 88 of Elsie, Michigan died on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Owosso Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes in Elsie, Michigan on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Gary Hawes will officiate and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Galen was born in Twelve Mile, Indiana on April 3, 1919 the son of Charles Wesley & Daisy Mae (Steele) Bashore. He resided all of his life in the Elsie, Michigan. He was married to Betty Lou Dunham on October 12, 1945 in Elsie, Michigan. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He was a dairy farmer, worked for Federal Mogul; he owned & operated a milk route. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, pulled ponies and he also enjoyed all outdoor sports. He also liked to play cards and he liked to bowl. He was a member of the National Farmer Organization, V.F.W.; he served in the U.S. Army in WWII stationed in the Hawaiian Islands where he was a photographer for the U.S. Army.
Survivors are his wife; Betty Bashore of Elsie, Michigan, two sons; Bruce & Barbara Bashore of Florida, Gary & Beverly Bashore of Hastings, Michigan, two daughters; Diana & Jerry Guyski of Owosso, Michigan, Deb & Randy Hunt of Elsie Michigan and ten grandchildren; Daisy & Wesley Shafer, Betsy & Chris McCall, Tracy Bashore, Clint Bashore, Thomas Bashore, Kathryn & Jason Fries, Jenae & Gary VanEffen, Dan & Becky Guyski, Mathew & Tina Byrnes, and Hillary & Nick Fabus. He is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, one granddaughter; Kimberly, four brothers; Clark, Woodrow, Ora, Loren and five sisters; Helen Grabel, Pauline Shumway, Irene Mead, Wilma Miller, and Virginia Hilton. Memorials may be made to the Elsie Little League or to the Jack Bashore Scholarship.
