Garlan Everett Denning, age 62, of Lansing, MI died Monday, December 23, 2013 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 1:00 P.M., with Dr. Michael Hixson officiating. Burial will take place at Gunnisonville Cemetery in DeWitt Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Garlan was born in Hillsdale, Michigan on February 9, 1951, the son of Everett and Fern (Borton) Denning. He graduated from Parkside High School in Jackson, and earned his Bachelors Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1979. Garlan married Joyce Grandy on May 5, 1979 in Bath, MI.
He resided in Lansing for the past 35 years. Gar owned and operated New Life Cleaning for over 30 years. He loved the outdoors; hiking, camping, and canoeing. He was a man of God, and always supported his childrens' passion for the Arts. Gar was very mechanically inclined, and enjoyed computers. Above all, he was a wonderful provider for his family. He attended Graham Church Laingsburg, MI.
Gar is survived by his wife Joyce Denning of Lansing, MI, son Trevor Denning of Grand Rapids, MI, daughter Tana Denning of Lansing, MI, parents Everett and Fern Denning of Jackson, MI, sister Diane and John Laymon of Spring Arbor, MI, brother Blaine and Connae Denning of Holly, MI, mother-in-law Jennie Grandy of Lansing, MI, and several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Gareld Grandy and brother-in-law Gaylord Grandy.
