Gary Gerard Oakley

     Gary Gerard Oakley, age 62, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center, Alma, MI.

    Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services. A luncheon will be held in his honor at Newark Township Hall, Ithaca, MI 48847, from 12:30-3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

   Gary was born in Flint, Michigan on August 26, 1960, the son of Lawrence and Regina (Carpenter) Oakley.  He graduated from Harrison High School.

     Gary was a butcher for many years.  He was very proud to own and operate Crossroads Meat in Midland.  He enjoyed fishing especially with his son Matt around Gratiot County.  He liked being up north and spending time on the water. Gary was a self-taught musician, mostly playing the guitar and he was able play music by ear.  He also enjoyed McDonalds chocolate shakes & fish filet sandwiches, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, and his door was always open to friends and extended family. Gary was a very proud dad and grandpa.

     He is survived by his children: Shannon and Ralph Madden; Matthew Oakley and Ashley Edgar; Melissa and Nathan MacLaren; grandchildren: Evan, Oakley, Zoe, Charlee, Garret, Brooklynn, Everley, Ethan, Mattalyn, and Emerson.  He is also survived by siblings: Charles and Viola Oakley; Lona and Jack Gray; and Donald Oakley; many nieces and nephews and many special friends and adopted family members.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: William and Alan Oakley.
