Gene Murgittroyd

Gene Robert Murgittroyd, age 76, of Pompeii, MI died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Lafayette Township Cemetery, Lafayette Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.

Gene was born in Wheeler, Michigan on December 16, 1931, the son of Obed and Ethel (Sweet) Murgittroyd. Gene resided most of his life in Gratiot County. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, drinking beer and was an avid advice-giver. He also loved country music and horses. He was employed at Oldsmobile, was a farmer, and owned the Pompeii Bar for several years.

He is survived by 2 sons; Randy and Cindy Murgittroyd of Zanesville, OH, Rick and Carrie Murgittroyd of Holt, MI, 2 daughters; Sandy Myers of Saginaw, MI, Shari Murgittroyd of East Lansing, MI, 6 grandchildren; Jessica Jones, Joshua Gene Murgittroyd, Adam Gene Murgittroyd, Elizabeth Murgittroyd, Nicholas Gene Thum, and Brittany Murgittroyd, 4 great grandchildren; Ewan, Colin, Molly, and Charles. He is also survived by brother Jack, sister Joyce, brother Jim, and sister Janet. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jason Myer.
