George Collar

George J. Collar age 80 of Ithaca, Michigan formerly of Sheridan, Michigan died Friday, July 21, 2006 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on Monday, July 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Rolla Timmons will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery Sheridan, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

George was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 19, 1925 the son of George and Nettie ( Dickman ) Collar. He resided most of his life in Crystal, and Sheridan before moving to Ithaca two years ago. George married June E. Herrick on February 25, 1948 in Angola, Indiana. She died on October 7, 2003. He retired from Fisher Body in Lansing, Michigan in 1977 after 30 years of service. George was a member of the Sheridan VFW Post #5065 and was a Past Commander. He was a Sargent in the Army during WW II.

He is survived by 2 daughters; Lin Shaffer of Holt, MI, Dawn & Douglas Cooper of Ithaca, MI, son George "Ed" & Connie Collar of Crystal, MI, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, 1 brother Hiram, and son-in-law Michael Shaffer.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, Chapel.
