George Day

George H. Day, age 89, of Elsie, MI passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mona Kindel and Pastor Fred Fisher officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

George was born in Owosso, Michigan on May 25, 1923, the son of Elmer and Martha (Woodrow) Day. He graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1940 at the age of 16. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. On September 27, 1947 George married Retha Warner in Bryan, Ohio. They have been married 65 years. George retired from Oldsmobile in Lansing in 1980 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, reading and jig saw puzzles. He was a MSU Spartan Basketball fan. George resided most of his life in Lansing and Elsie, he was a member of American Legion Post 502, Elsie, and Perry VFW Post 4063. He was also a member of Elsie United Methodist Church, Elsie, MI.

He is survived by his wife Retha Day of Elsie, MI, sister Betty Welch, sisters in law; Erma Warner, and Leota Kajdas, 12 nieces & nephews, and his special nieces & nephews; Ron Kajdas, Susan and Robert Peterson, Diane and Douglas Saylor, Dawn Kajdas, and Robert and Cathy Warner. He is also survived by great nieces & nephews; Kristi (Peterson) & Ryan Brunworth, Kevin & Lisa Peterson, Sara (Peterson) & Danny VanDewater, Paul Peterson, Cory Sheldon, Erin (Saylor) & Matt Ryan, Douglas Saylor, Tammie (Johnston) & Tom Wolfe, Joe & Jenny Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston, Nicole and Rachel Warner, and several great great nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Philo Day, and sister Mary Denman.
