George E. Smith age 78 of Owosso, Michigan died Monday, December 10, 2007 at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Rev. Ray Strawser will officiate with burial at Greenwood Cemetery Vernon, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 6-9 P.M. and Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 2-9 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-9 P.M.
George was born in Flint, Michigan on February 7, 1929 the son of Ikie and Nellie ( McMichael ) Smith. He resided most of his life in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties and attended Beacher Schools. George married Leola June Cooper on December 23, 1959 in Shiawassee County. She passed away. He then married Sharon Walmsley on October 29, 1988 in Missauwaka, Indiana. He worked as a Union Driver for the Teamsters. He also owned and operated the South Side Market in Durand. He authored a book called "Creative Comments" that he was very proud of. George loved to play his guitar, enjoyed camping, collecting antique die cast cars, socializing at Newports, and keeping up on current events. He also enjoyed going to car shows, tractor shows in Oakley, and auctions. He enjoyed all his pets. George was a member of Durand Eagles, Teamster Union 332, and he Volunteered at FIA Foster Care Review Board.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Smith of Owosso, MI, 3 sons; Ted & Becky Smith of Owosso, MI, Daryl Smith of Owosso, MI, Dean & Alla Smith of Corunna, MI, 2 daughters; Beth Karhoff of Bancroft, MI, Georgette Smith of North Carolina, 1 step-daughter Roberta Powers of Buchanan, MI, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 sisters; Dorothy & Lawerence Fogle, Ellouise & Arley Smith, Barbara Coggins, and 3 brothers; Brennan Smith, L.D. & Mary Louise Smith, and J.D. & Karen Smith. He is predeceased by his parents, & first wife.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
