Gerald Cannon

Gerald Irving Cannon, age 68, of Ovid, MI passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Dr. David Huff will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2009 from 2-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel, Elsie.

Gerald was born in Owosso, Michigan on December 5, 1940, the son of Erwin and Vera (Deming) Cannon. He was a 1959 graduate of Ovid High School and resided most of his life in the Ovid area. On February 3, 1962, Gerald married Shirley Conklin in Elsie at the Elsie United Methodist Church.

Gerald worked for a telephone company and as a meat cutter. He retired from General Motors in 1991. Gerald liked fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved hunting for mushrooms.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Cannon of Ovid, MI, son David and Cindy Cannon of St. Johns, MI, daughter Donna and Dale Schafer of St. Johns, MI, grandchildren; Nicole Cannon & fiancé Jeffrey Curtain, Bethany Cannon and Samantha Schafer. Gerald is also survived by aunts, uncles, in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Leroy Cannon.
