Gerald Holt

Gerald Duane Holt age 92, of Lake George, formerly of Ovid MI, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Medilodge of Clare, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Ovid on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Peter Gelatt officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 and on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI.

Gerald was born in Paris Township, Michigan on December 15, 1924, the son of Norman Duane and Louisa E. (DeForest) Holt.  Gerald served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII.  He married Loretta Tyler and she preceded him in death in October of 1983. Gerald married Janet McGuire on July 5, 1986, in St. Clair, MI.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He was a previous member of the Moose Lodge in Harrison, MI. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Lake George, MI.  Gerald lived in the Grand Rapids and Ovid areas most of his life; he moved to Lake George in 2000.

He is survived by his wife Janet Holt, children; Barbara Names, Brian and Lori Holt, Barron Holt, Bruce Holt, Brent and Jennifer Holt, and Gary and Rachel Gehres.  He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, brother Jim Holt and Cindy Lemon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta, and brother Milan Holt.
