Gernith Emily Schnettler age 97 of Owosso, Michigan died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Rev. David Russell will officiate with burial at Rich Township Cemetery Mayville, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Gernith was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on May 27, 1910 the daughter of Asa Wellington and Carrie Elizabeth ( Fallahay ) Markle. She resided most of her life in the Flint area before moving to Owosso, MI in 1992. She graduated from Flint Central High School and she then attended Baker Business School. Gernith married Erwin Schnettler on October 9, 1937 in Flint, Michigan. He died on March 27, 1991. Gernith was a member of First United Methodist Church, Owosso, MI and a previous member of Oak Park United Methodist in Flint where she was very active as well as a member of the United Methodist Women. Gernith was a homemaker. She taught Sunday School at both churches. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and outside activities.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Hatmaker of Owosso, MI, 3 granddaughters Lisa Whisman of Corunna, MI, Litha Hatmaker-Adams & Jim Adams of Owosso, MI, Lorna & Jeff Quirk of Owosso, MI, 3 great granddaughters; Carrie Whisman, McKallie Quirk, and Alyssa Quirk. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 3 brothers; Melvin, Ralph, & Don Markle, and son-in-law William Hatmaker.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Owosso, MI. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.
