Gladys Vincent

Gladys E. Vincent, age 103, of Elsie, MI passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elsie, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Elsie United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1-2 P.M. prior to the Service at the Church. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI.

Gladys was born in Elsie, Michigan on June 4, 1909, the daughter of Ernest and Nellie M. (Woodard) Knight. Gladys resided most of her life in Elsie, moving to Punta Gorda, FL in 1979 where she spent the winters before returning to Elsie. Gladys married LeRoy Vincent in September of 1933.

Gladys graduated from Mt. Pleasant Teachers College. She taught school at Mead Country School, North Elementary School for 28 years and Shiawassee Intermediate School teaching in the homebound program. Gladys was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church. She also was a member of AARP, MARSP and the Eastern Star #69 where she served as the Worthy Matron for over 80 years, she was also a Guardian of Job's Daughters. Gladys loved to read and garden.

She is survived by her daughter Erna Vincent of Elsie, MI, 2 grandsons; Dan Egbert of Rockford, MI and Jim Egbert of Elsie, MI. Gladys is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren; David & Faatima Egbert, Nathan & Sarah Egbert, Tim Egbert, Cari & Kanyon Robertson, 6 great-great-grandchildren; Kaylen Robertson, Aydan Robertson, Janora Robertson, Josie Egbert, Carson Egbert and Ethan Egbert. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband LeRoy in 1980, 3 children; William Vincent in infancy, Kay Egbert in 1996 and Lee Vincent in 1992.
