Gloria R. Nikkari, age 88, of St. Louis, MI passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, MI with Rev. Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, with a Scripture Service being prayed at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Gloria was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on February 27, 1925, the daughter of Reno and Dora (Tomassoni) Romagnoli. She honorably served her country in the United States Navy from May 17, 1945 to July 25, 1946. Gloria married Eugene "Gene" M. Nikkari on January 23, 1950. She worked as an elementary school teacher for the Merrill Community Schools, the Almont Community Schools, and the Breckenridge Community Schools. She especially like teaching kindergarten and third grade pupils. Gloria was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, MI.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gene Nikkari, son Matthew Nikkari and Tracy Webb, daughter Maria and Jeff Reynolds, son Andrew and Diana Nikkari, and grandchildren; Gina and Brendan Wheeler, Mitchell and Lauren Reynolds, Olivia Nikkari and Maxwell Nikkari. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; Donald Romagnoli and Robert "Bob Reno" Romagnoli, and sister Doloris Miketinac.
