Gregory Lynn Flegel, age 65, of St. Louis, MI, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, with his wife by his side, at Baywood Banner Medical Center in Mesa, AZ.

A Memorial Service will be held at New Haven Church of the Brethren, Middleton, MI on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Brian Ruth officiating.  Burial will take place at Fulton Center Township in Fulton Township, MI.  Due to the current situation, wearing masks, and following social distancing guidelines will be requested.  For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed live on the Smith Family Funeral Homes’ Facebook page.

Gregory was born on August 23, 1955 at Smith Memorial Hospital in Alma, MI, the son of Fred and Bernice (Smith) Flegel.  In his childhood years Greg lived in North Star, MI and later the family moved to Perrinton, MI.  Greg graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1973, with many friends he stayed in touch with over the years.

Greg married his wife Elaine on May 20, 1995 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wheeler, MI.  Over the years Greg held a variety of jobs including: farmhand, truck driver, and he was a diesel mechanic.  He owned his own successful diesel shop 309 Truck Service in Caledonia, OH until he and his wife moved to Houghton Lake, MI, in 2001.  There he resumed his love of boats, the great outdoors, and keeping his lawn perfect.

Greg especially loved camping in Northern MI or the Great Lakes and watching the freighters on the St. Mary River in Sault St. Marie.  He enjoyed being at the campground and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.  Greg and Elaine later moved to St. Louis MI and wintered in AZ where he loved taking his jeep to the mountains to see the expanse of beauty.  Greg was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and all of their accomplishments and was happy to tell everyone about them.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Elaine, along with his children: Rick Green of Belmont, NC, Monica (Jon) Kiser of Tampa, FL, Patrick (Bethann) McPherson of Ithaca, MI, and Victoria (Steven) Edgington of Bucyrus, OH; his grandchildren: Evan and Eliza Kiser, Alyssa & Kaylee McPherson, and Rylinn and Graysen Edgington.  He is also survived by sister Denise Curtis, brother Randy (Diane) Flegel, and many other family members.  Greg was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Bernice (Smith) Flegel, parents-in-law, Dale & Viola (Anderson) Misenhelder, Joan Wiley, and his grandparents.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.
