Gwendell Vernon Teachman "G.V.", age 92, of Ithaca, Michigan passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. David McBride will officiate. Burial will follow at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel.

Beloved husband of Virginia (68 years), honored father of Michael, dearest father-in-law of Patricia, esteemed grandfather of Timothy, Melissa and Jeremy, revered grandfather-in-law of Claudia, Brandon and Mahsa also proud great-grandfather of Titan, Merica, Brandon, Emilia, Anderson, Mason and Colin.

Gwen was born and raised in Ithaca, moved to Detroit in 1940 and retired to Ithaca in 1979. Among his many accomplishments were; Inspector and later Regional Supervisor of the Food Inspection Division of MDA, recipient of Miles A. Nelson Merit Award (1971), Economic Club of Detroit member (12 years), long standing member of Covenant Baptist Church in Detroit where he served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Board of Trustees, Board of Deacons and Church Moderator.

His return to Ithaca saw 30 years of service to his church, United Methodist Church and to the community, Gratiot County Commission on Aging, Rotary Club and Ithaca City Council.

Short in stature but large in character, leadership and integrity; G.V. will be missed here as he celebrates a life well lived with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
