Harley E. Bickel age 85 of St. Louis, Michigan died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Lillian French will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Harley was born in Union Furnace, Ohio on May 23, 1921 the son of Harley and Effie ( Siders ) Bickel. He resided most of his life in St. Louis, Michigan and graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1940. Harley married Leona Bickel on August 8, 1940 in Midland, Michigan. She died on October 21, 2004. He was employed by Michigan Chemical for 25 years as an electrical supervisor. He also worked for Consumers Power for 10 years, retiring in 1979. He loved to spend time with his family, and he enjoyed repairing thing. He also enjoyed his cabin up north and hunting. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Harley was a member First United Methodist Church, St. Louis, MI.
He is survived by 1 daughter Angela & Bob Cooper of St. Louis, MI, 1 son Philip & Susan Bickel of Jackson, MI, 6 grandchildren; Matthew & Patti Cooper of Caledonia, MI, Mandi & Pat Cook of DeWitt, MI, Heidi & Gary Cook of DeWitt, MI, Paul Bickel of Grass Lake, MI, Dustin & Angie Cooper of Kentwood, MI, Dan & Kim Bickel of Jackson, MI, 9 great grandchildren; Kelsey, Nicholas, Lauren, Travis, Madison, Meghan, Katie, Dylan, Audrey, & Emma, and 2 sisters; Betty Rich of St. Louis, MI, and Virginia Johnson of Ohio. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, 1 brother John, and 2 sisters Lillian & Gertrude.
