Harold B. Kern, age 79, of Ithaca, Michigan died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Harold donated his body to Michigan State University, Lansing, Michigan.
Harold was born in Woodstock, Virginia on October 24, 1935, the son of James Henry and Emma Augusta (Bruhn) Kern. On January 28, 1989 he married Evelyn N. Scott in Bannister, Michigan.
Harold had worked on the construction of petroleum pipelines though out Michigan and Red Adair oil fields in Texas. He also had worked for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Harold was a member of the Mason Lodge, Eastern Star and the Shrines, and enjoyed being a ham radio operator. He enjoyed fishing, and astronomy. He was a member of Bannister United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Kern, son James and Jackie Kern, stepchildren; Karen and Rick Tetsworth, Rhonda and Russ Gingrich, Jane Porubsky, 10 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
