Harold Cletus Wirtz, age 84, of Henderson, MI passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Brittany Manor Midland, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Herb Wheelock will officiate. Visiting with family and friends will be on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Harold was born in Midland, Michigan on July 20, 1927, the son of William J. and Agnes (Gray) Wirtz. Harold resided in Midland in his younger years, in Texas and then in Owosso since 1990.
Harold served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked in the construction field for Austin Construction and Collison Construction both of Midland, MI. He also worked for Soresnson Gross of Flint and Tribble-Stephens Construction of San Antonio, TX. Harold traveled extensively through his career. When he retired he started farming in Henderson, MI and sold his plants and produce at the Owosso Farmers Market, where he had many friends. He was a hard worker and loved gardening, farming, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter Brenda and Vern Wlock of Midland, MI, son Richard and Teresa Wirtz of San Antonio, TX, daughter Carolyn and Frantt Whitehill of Midland, MI, son Bruce Wirtz of Midland, MI, daughter Connie Wirtz of San Antonio, TX, son-in-law Brian Robinson of Midland, MI, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, brother Leo Wirtz of Midland, MI, 6 sisters; Veronica and Calvin Kilburn of Henderson, MI, Marguerite and Bill Mueller of Midland, MI, Shirley and Ed Chapman of Midland, MI, Ramona and Curtiss Vogt of Mason, TX, Frances and Joe Scheib of Grand Rapids, MI, Betty Tyrell of Chandler, AZ, several nieces and nephews, and best friends Morley Terbush and Teresa Takac. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, life partner Doris Campbell, son Joseph Wirtz and daughter Robbin Robinson.
