Harriett Ruth Hockett age 104 of Alma, MI formerly of Owosso, MI died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Thadd Sparrow will officiate with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008, from 6-8 p.m.

Harriett was born in West Liberty, Kentucky on December 9, 1903 the daughter of Charles and Etta ( Prater ) Elam. She had resided in Owosso since 1923 and graduated from High School in Paris, Illinois. Harriett married LeRoy M. Hockett on August 27, 1923 in Illinois. He passed away on January 6, 1967. Harriett worked for Dr. Walter Shepherd and retired from Memorial Healthcare after 30 years of service. After retiring, Harriett volunteered for the Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary and for the American Red Cross. She loved music and liked to crochet and read. Harriett had been an active member of the First Church of Christ, sang in the choir for 60 years, and also taught Sunday School. She was active in Eastern Stars and Job's Daughter's.

She is survived by her daughter D. Joan & David Lorion of Haines City, FL, grandson Mark & Celeste Swanson of Winter Park, FL, great grandson Mark Ashton Swanson, grandson Chip & Erma Lorion of Arizona, great granddaughter Joli & Josh Fytczyk of Kalamazoo, MI, sister Dorothy Bennett of Mesa, AZ, brother Jim & Martha Elam of Paris, IL, and many wonderful nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parent, husband, one daughter Carolyn Jean Hockett, and five siblings.
