Harry Purves Jr. age 88 of Elsie, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Chaplain Charlie Krueger will officiate. Burial will be held at Fairfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel.There will be a Masonic Service on Saturday at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Harry was born in Fairfield Township on August 28, 1922 the son of Harry P. and Gladys (Goodrich) Purves. Harry graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1940. He married Ilene Catherine Dent on February 25, 1945 in Carson City, Michigan, and together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Harry lived his whole life in Fairfield Township, running the family dairy farm and eventually retiring from GM Fisher Body Lansing in 1984. Harry loved to fish, and was happiest at his cottage on his beloved Drummond Island, spending countless summers with many wonderful friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elsie, and the U.A.W.

Harry is survived by his wife, Ilene Purves of Elsie, MI, daughter Lynda Purves of San Francisco, CA, son Thomas and Allyson Purves of San Francisco, CA, cousin, Sidney Goodrich who was like a brother to him, niece, Kathleen Schut, Traverse City, MI; and sister Elizabeth Silverthorn of Sun City West, AZ. He was predeceased by his parents.
