Harvey Milton Coon, age 90, of Henderson, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Michigan, at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 11, 2025, with Pastor Carol Kusnier officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Elba Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Harvey was born in Owosso, Michigan on April 20, 1934, the son of John Alfred and Nancy (Glover) Coon. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Kearsarge CV33. He loved his time in the Navy. He worked for General Motors for 31 years and was a lifelong farmer. On June 14, 1958, Harvey married Shirley Mildred Hunt in Owosso, Michigan. They were blessed with fifty-three years of marriage prior to her passing on December 24, 2011.
Harvey was kind, courteous, compassionate, and patient. He had an infectious smile that preceded him into the room. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the Detroit Tigers, and enjoyed coaching Little League. He faithfully attended all the activities for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harvey cherished his time at the hunting camp with four generations of family and friends. He was ready for a game of Euchre at any time or any place, especially Hoover's Corners card night. He loved wood working, and reading Louis L'Amour. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Henderson and Chapin United Methodist Church for many years.
He is survived by four children: Jon (Renae) Coon of Carsonville, MI; James (Marilyn) Coon of White Cloud, MI; Susanne Hickmott of Baldwin, MI; and Jerold (Yulia) Coon of Coleman, MI; nine grandchildren: Joshua Coon, Rebecca Durkee, Sarah (Michelle) Clymer, Samantha Coon, Jarod Coon, James (DeAnne) Coon, Tamara (Aaron) Sells, Brienna Hickmott, and Nikita Coon; ten great-grandchildren: Macy, Morgan, Tova, Thomas, Joseph, Courtney, Jacob, Penny, Avery, and Owen; brother-in-law Richard Hunt, sisters-in-law: Karen Hunt, Carol Hunt, Sally Hunt, and Judy Coon; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Marie VanDeusen. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Nancy, his wife Shirley, and siblings: Juanita Coon, William Coon, Clifford Coon, and infant brother Leonard.
