Helen Catherine Havalda age 76 of Owosso, Michigan went peacefully home to her God on Monday, January 15, 2007 at Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus Lansing, Michigan.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church Owosso, Michigan on Friday, January 19, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. David Fisher will officiate and burial will take place at West Haven Township Cemetery New Haven Township, Michigan. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. & Thursday, January 18, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Helen was born in Bannister, Michigan on February 12, 1930 the daughter of Marco Mike and Josephine (Slamar) Luznak. As a young girl she worked hard on her parenta�(TM)s farm with her 10 siblings and graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1948. She grew up in Bannister, Michigan and spent her adult life in the Owosso area On October 25, 1952 Helen married Tony Havalda at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan. She worked for Universal Electric for over 20 years. Helen helped her husband Tony on their farm for over 50 years. She loved to ride motorcycles, snowmobiles, dance and listen to polkas, watch the Pistons and above all shopping for that bargain. She also loved her many dogs she owned, especially Duke and Molly. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owosso, Michigan.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Havalda of Owosso, Michigan, 2 daughters; Sharon & Dave Ganssley of Owosso, Michigan, Renee & Mike Fisher of Owosso, Michigan, 1 son T.J. Havalda of Owosso, Michigan, also surviving are her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Corey, Tyler, Janelle, & Trevor Ganssley, Rachelle Fisher, and 2 step-grandsons, James & Tim Fisher, 1 sister, Rose Supp, 1 brother, Mike & Ann Luznak, 2 brothers-in-law, Joe Vostrizansky, Steve Chvojka, 2 sisters-in-law, Marion Korienek, Pearl Havalda, several loving nieces & nephews, her life long friend, Elaine Wagner, and her beloved dog, Molly. She was predecesed by her parents, and sisters & brother, Anna Fabus, Stuna Niko, Staffie Vostrizanski, Josephine Slamka, Stella Sipka, Genevieve Chvojka, Frances Fabus, Mary Luznak, Johnney Luznak, Steve Luznak, and Joseph Luznak, Mary Luznak. For those who knew Helen they were touched by her will power and determination to live life to the fullest no matter how tough the road. She was an inspiration to all of us and has no doubt earned her wings.
Memorials may be made to WOES Radio Program, Corunna Athletic Club, St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
