Helen Knowles, 97, of St. Louis, Michigan passed away peacefully at Warwick Living Center on November 27, 2015.
Helen was born in Arlington, MA to Everett Duncan and Ellen Sophia (Jones) Coffin. She married William James Knowles on May 15, 1942. Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as a secretary for many years. She taught Bishop sewing, loved woodworking, china painting and performing on stage with the Gratiot County Players. Through the years, Helen was involved with; the American Legion Auxiliary, American Cancer Society, United Methodist Women and a number of other organizations where she willing volunteered her time.
Family was important to Helen and she often had a large number of them in her home at the holidays or during summers at their cottage on Higgins Lake. Her family includes husband, William (Doc) Knowles of St. Louis, MI, daughter Barbara and Ken Hagen of St. Louis, MI, daughter Gail Knowles of Westminster, CO, son William and Elizabeth Knowles of St. Petersburg, FL, son Frederick and Ann Knowles of New Bern, NC, son David Knowles of Sturbridge, MA, son Steven and Ruthie Knowles of New Bern, NC, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
