Helen Elizabeth Wassa age 75 of Bannister, MI died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Helen was born in Owosso, Michigan on May 23, 1932 the daughter of Walter and Catherine ( Fanko ) Cords. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1951. Helen married Albert J. Wassa on August 25, 1951 at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, MI. She was a homemaker. Helen enjoyed bowling, and did it for 50 years. She also enjoyed gardening. Helen was the group leader for bus trips to the casinos out of the ZCBJ Lodge in Bannister. She enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her family. She wasthe oldest of ten children. Helen was a member of the ZCBJ Locge, Alba Sunshine Club, Moose Lodge #1566 in St. Louis, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles or Mt. Morris, MI.
She is survived by her husband Albert Wassa of Bannister, MI, son Joseph Wassa & Mary Newman of Bannister, MI, 3 sisters; Patricia Dansby, Mary Ann Cornell, Linda Kanter, 4 brothers David Cords, Walter Cords, Louis Cords, Russell Cords, and several nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, 1 sister Pauline, and 1 brother Fred.
Memorials may be made to the ZCBJ Lodge, Bannister, MI. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
