Helena Elliott age 101 of Pittsford, New York formerly of Owosso, died on December 24, 2007. A Celebration of Her Life will be on Friday, May 23, 2008, 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, in Owosso. Pastor Duane Harris & Pastor Carol Johns will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon.
Helena Elliott was born May 30, 1906 in Vernon, Michigan. Helena was the daughter of John D. & Helen (Randolph) Pierce. She graduated from Vernon High School in 1924 and attended Central Michigan Normal School, Mt. Pleasant (C.M.U.) and Western State Normal School, Kalamazoo (W.M.U.) in preparation for a teaching career. She taught in county schools in Shaftsburg and in the Durand area for five years. On June 12, 1929 she was married to L. Arthur Elliott at a home wedding. She and her husband took up residence in Owosso where he was employed at The State Savings Bank (the present Chemical Bank).
Mrs. Elliott was a homemaker plus active in local civic organizations. She is a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Owosso where she was active in many groups plus performing the duties of Financial Secretary for twelve years with her husband. She was a member of the YWCA Board – working in the Y's Thrift Shop for many years – and a member of the Owosso Woman's Club.
In 1998 Mrs. Elliott and her husband Arthur moved to Pittsford, NY to be closer to their son Larry Elliott and his wife Peggy. She had two grandchildren – Timothy Elliott and his wife Ann of Newfields, New Hampshire – Cynthia Fuhs and her husband Michael of Sioux Falls, SD. Her great grandson Alexander also resides in Sioux Falls. She is also survived by her niece Florabelle Johns and her husband Donald of Owosso plus a sister in law, Pansy Pierce of Durand.
She was preceded in death by her husband L. Arthur Elliott (December 2002), sisters Lucy and Laura and four brothers, Frank, Fred, Cecil, and Lee. On line condolences may be sent to: smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com
