Henry Schafer

Henry J. Schafer died March 9, 2014 at the age of 84. He was born on February 18, 1930 in Clinton Co., the son of William and Hildagard Schafer. He married Barbara Howorth on September 22, 1956 and she preceded him in death on June 14, 2009. Henry served with the United States Army during the Korean War, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pewamo and retired from General Motors.

Surviving are his children, Keith (Tina) Schafer of Eaton Rapids, John (Denise) Schafer of Pewamo, Brenda (Kevin Forbes) Goerge of St. Johns and Diane (Robert) McKinney of St. Johns, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sisters Pat (Roy) Howorth, Louise (Francis) Feldpausch and Diane (Carroll) Conway, brother, Ken (Katrinka) Schafer and many nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara and brother, Bernie (Eileen) Schafer.

Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m, Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pewamo, burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with Fr. Charlon Mason presiding. Military Services will be provided by the VFW Post #3733. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m., on Thursday at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns.
