Howard Earl Deford, age 95, of St. Louis, MI passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at McLaren Greenlawn Campus, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, St. Louis, MI on Saturday, July 5 at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Kendall Deford, Pastor Nick Deford and Pastor Jake Gregory officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will also be held on July 5, 2014 for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Howard was born in Maple Ridge, Michigan on July 25, 1918, the son of Fred and Carrie (Whiting) Deford. Howard married his bride of nearly 72 years, Marvel Mabel (Deline) Deford.
Howard retired after 37 years from AC Spark Plug in Flint, MI. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene since 1945. Howard served as a board member, Sunday School superintendant, and teen ministry president. Howard was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII, New Guinea and the Philippines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and puttering in his garage.
He is survived by his wife Marvel Deford of St. Louis, MI, son Kendall and Gail Deford of Nashville, TN, 2 daughters; Karen Deford of Lansing, MI, Kathleen and Gary Schneider of Grand Ledge, MI, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and sister Donna Edwards of Atlanta, MI. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, son Curtice, and daughter in law Debbie.
