Howard LeRoy Halteman age 93 of Ashley, MI died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Ashley Care Center in Ashley, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 1:00 PM, Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 6 to 8 P.M. and on Friday, August 8, 2008 from 11am until time of services at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.
Howard was born in Clinton County, Michigan on January 13, 1915, the son Roy C. and Olga (Madden) Halteman. Howard married Iva G. Stevens on November 29, 1936 in Rochester Colony. She died on August 27, 2000. Howard retired from General Motors in 1977. He moved to Drummond Island from 1977 to 1994. He owned and operated his own saw mill & farmed for many years. Howard loved fishing, coon hunting and gardening. He was a member of Drummond Island Lions Club and the U.A.W.
He is survived by 3 sons; John and Joan Halteman of Bannister, MI, Glen Halteman of Perrinton, Michigan, Wayne Halteman of Ashley, Michigan, grandchildren; Deborah and Todd Rodgers, Karen and Robert Skaryd, Michelle Albring, Kim and Todd Tessman, Cindy Smith, Nicole Halteman and Brian Wieber, Ryan Halteman, brother-in-law Reginald and Janese Stevens, and great grandchildren; Trevor, Brianna, Shaylyn, Marissa, Aubrey and Hanah. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Iva, and 1 son Bud Halteman.
