Irene Elodie Baert, age 92, of Elsie, Michigan passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Bill Gruden officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be prayed on Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Irene was born in Belgium on July 28, 1922. On March 9, 1942 she married Arthur Baert in the Netherlands; Arthur died February 5, 1969. Irene worked for Ovid Elsie Schools in the custodial department, and worked for Capital Area Community Services Senior Aid Program. She enjoyed bowling, knitting and sewing. Her grandchildren were very special to her. Irene resided most of her life in Lansing, Grand Rapids and Chapin before moving to Elsie in 1969. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister.

She is survived by 1 daughter Sonja and Keith Homer of Elsie, MI, 3 sons; Jimmy and Kathleen Baert of St. Johns, MI, Bob Baert of San Antonio, TX, David and Pauline Baert of St. Johns, MI, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
