Ivan D. "Ike" Gillis, age 81 of Alma, Michigan passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at his home. He worked for Dow Chemical in Midland, retiring in 1981.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. Mr. Keith Wise will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M.
Ivan was born on September 23, 1922 in Breckenridge, Michigan, the son of Denver & Mary (Farr) Gillis. He attended Breckenridge schools. He married Wilma Gillis in St. Louis in 1948. She passed away on April 30, 1990. He was a WWII veteran and was a member of the VFW Post #1454 in Alma. He was also a member of the CSA Hall. He enjoyed visiting with people and telling stories. In the past, he enjoyed their cottage at Higgins Lake and boating. He also liked his tractor and doing yard work. He resided most of his life in Alma, Michigan.
He is survived by 2 sons, Michael Gillis of Alma, MI, and Patrick D. Gillis of Alma, MI, 1 grandson, Heath Gillis of Elwell, MI, 1 great-granddaughter, Grace Gillis of Elwell, MI, he is also survived by a half-brother, his mother, Mary Gillis of West Branch, MI, and longtime friend, Bernice Edgar of Alma, MI.
Memorials may be made to Alma Public Library in Ikea�(TM)s name. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
