Ivan Carl Wheeler age 83 passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at The Laurels of Carson City.
A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Louis VFW Post on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Joel Todd officiating.
Ivan Carl Wheeler was born on December 22, 1930 to Ray and Edna (Ries) Wheeler in Saginaw, Michigan. Carl was one of four boys; Lloyd Wheeler, Larry Wheeler, and Charles Wheeler. Carl moved to St. Louis, MI as a young boy. Carl joined the US Navy in December 1947 and was stationed at Annapolis, Norfolk, Virginia and he served on the Robert K. Huntington 781 until 1952 when he was Honorably Discharged due to injuries he received.
On January 1, 1964 Carl married Mary E. Smith in St. Louis, MI. Together they raised 7 children; Darlene (John) Baker of Alma, MI, Marian (Tom) Wright of Alma, MI, Mark (Lucia) MacNabb of St. Louis, MI, Ivan (Teresa) Wheeler of Ithaca, MI, Bryan (Michelle) MacNabb of Buffalo, TX, Carla (Ray) Falconbridge of Grand Rapids, MI, and Kevin Wheeler of Edmore, MI. Carl was also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Carl worked for Trower Furniture in Alma doing furniture delivery and repair. He worked as a gas station attendant at several gas stations in the Gratiot County area. He also did furniture repair and snow plowing and other odd jobs during his lifetime.
Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, canning, ceramics, collecting antiques, watching the Detroit Tigers on TV, traveling when it was possible, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, brothers; Lloyd and Charles and 2 grandsons.
