Jack Ackerson
Jack Allen Ackerson age 78 of Corunna, Michigan passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at his home due to a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Pastor Burton Kincaid will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 7, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Jack was born on September 14, 1929 in Ypsilanti, MI to Don and Mabel (Kingsbury) Ackerson. Jack was raised in the Corunna area. On February 18, 1950 Jack married Janis Kerby in Angola, Indiana. They resided on the Ackerson farm in Corunna.
Jack was an electrical contractor owning and operating his own company "Ackerson Electric" for over 40 years. Jack also worked as a skilled tradesman at General Motors-Fisher Body Plant in Flint, retiring in 1988.
Jack worked for the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds as the grounds electrician from 1958 to 2007. Over the last several years he served as a member of "the board of directors" for the Shiawassee Agricultural Association, up until his death.
Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, full of integrity, pride, and love. He enjoyed life and would do anything for his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed more than words could ever express.
Survivors include his wife Janis Ackerson, 2 sons; Mike Ackerson, Steve & Tamie Ackerson both of Corunna, 2 daughters; Kristy & Dan Ferrier of Florida, Julianne Mowinski and Shawn Scepka of Owosso, mother Mabel Ackerson and Johnny Vozar of Corunna, grandchildren; Danny & Stacey Ferrier, Eric Ferrier and April Hyde, Maggie Kozel, Nichole Ackerson, Ashley Ackerson, Heather Dietrich, Morgan and Austin Mowinski, 3 great grandchildren; Devon, Alexis, and Allissa, sister Joyce & Richard Batchelor of Owosso and sister-in-law Donna Boone of Owosso, MI.
He was predeceased in death by an infant son Allen, his father Don Ackerson and sister Joanne & Ronald Luft.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Healthcare Hospice or to the Shiawassee Agricultural Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
