Jack Newsted

Jack Newsted age 85 of Okemos, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Bickford Senior Living, Okemos, MI.

No services will be held.

Jack was born in Detroit, MI on August 5, 1931, the son of Jack and Beatrice (Reich) Newsted.  Jack was married to Elsie Newsted for 49 years and she was the love of his life.  Elsie passed away on May 26, 2004. Jack resided most of his life in Bridgman, MI. He served his country in the U.S. Army and received his Masters Degree from Michigan State University.  Jack was an avid cyclist and enjoyed woodworking.  He made toys for Salvation Army and volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity.  Jack tutored children, teaching them English.  He and his family spent 5 years in Brazil as missionaries. He was a member of Whitehall United Methodist Church

Jack is survived by his son John and Pamela Newsted of Haslett, MI, son Steve and Cheryl Newsted of Ellenwood, GA, daughter Joan and Jerry Gunthorpe of Ovid, MI, son Phil Newsted of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Jacqueline Newsted of Whitehall, MI, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister Beatrice Schultz, brother Warren and Marti Newsted, brother Lloyd Newsted, sister Bonnie Wheeler, and sister Karen Brady.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 2 brothers; Marvin and Don Newsted.
