James W. Burgess age 87 of St. Louis, Michigan died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church St. Louis, MI on Wednesday, March 8, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Pastor Lillian French will officiate with burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery Flint, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
James was born in Deckerville, Michigan on September 25, 1919 the son of Guy and Mary Burgess. He resided in St. Louis since 1986. He graduated from Deckerville High School with the class of 1937. He then received his Bachelors of Divinity from Wheaton College in 1944, and went on to received his Masters of Divinity from Central Seminary in Kansas City in 1959. James married Eula-Jean Bryan on February 5, 1944 in Birmingham, Michigan. He worked as the Town & Country Director for the Michigan Baptist Convention. He also pastored several churches, including being the visitation pastor at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan. He continued to be active in hischurch long after retirement. James was a member of St. Louis First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by wife of 63 years Eula-Jean Burgess of St. Louis, MI, 3 children; Patricia Tucker of Flushing, MI, Robert & Eko Burgess of Honolulu, HI, John Burgess of Ionia, MI, 5 grandchildren; Bonnie & Thomas Naessens of St. Louis, MI, Sherri Tucker of Flint, MI, Aaron & Michelle Burgess of Denver, CO, Scott Tucker of Flushing, MI, Kent Burgess of Honolulu, HI, and 1 brother Howard Burgess of Texas. He is predeceased by his parents, and 4 brothers.
Memorials may be made to St. Louis First United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
