James Martin

James W. Martin age 86 of Corunna, Michigan died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ron Willson will officiate with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery Corunna, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

James was born in Corunna, Michigan on March 4, 1921 the son of Robert and Elizabeth ( Hawn ) Martin. He resided all of his life in Corunna, MI and graduated from Corunna High School with the class of 1939. James married Norma H. Nason on August 19, 1944 in Big Rapids, Michigan. He worked as a mail carrier in Corunna, at Redmonds, and then at Consumers Energy out of the Owosso office before retiring in 1976. After retirement he worked for the Corunna Schools. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and canoeing. He loved to go up North and spend time in the woods. He also liked sporting events and going to Corunna athletic events. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. James served on the Corunna Volunteer Fire Department starting in 1940.

He is survived by his wife Norma Martin of Corunna, MI, 3 daughters; Virginia & Charles Carsten of Mio, MI, Linda & Gary Terry of Corunna, MI, Patricia & Chester Terry of Chesaning, MI, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, 3 granddaughters; Jennifer Griffin, Trisha Terry & Wendy Terry, 1 great granddaughter Brandy Rollings, 1 brother Raymond Martin, and 2 sisters; Gertrude Melro and Margaret.

Memorials may be made to Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
