James Charles McNamara Sr., age 80, of Owosso, MI passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church Owosso, MI on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. John Fain will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday December 21, 2009 from 5-8 PM and on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
James was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 18, 1929, the son of Charles and Nellie (Haley) McNamara. He attended St. Paul Catholic School. James married Patricia R. Butcher on November 7, 1953 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso, MI. James resided all of his life in Owosso. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and was a devoted Catholic.
James retired from Grand Trunk Railroad as an Engineer in 1992 after 38 years. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and he loved having them around. James loved animals, especially cats. He had a strong passion for farming and enjoyed working his small farm. He collected John Deere tractors. James also was a member of the Mid-Michigan Old Gas Tractor Association.
James is survived by his wife Patricia R. McNamara of Owosso, MI, son James and Brenda McNamara Jr. of Owosso, MI, daughter Monica and Richard Snyder of Owosso, MI, daughter Julie McNamara of Durand, MI, son Timothy McNamara of Owosso, MI, daughter Mary Nell and Martin Krhovsky of Corunna, MI, daughter Maureen and Frederick Farkas of Saline, MI, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and sister Shirley Novak of Saginaw, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jason McNamara, 2 sisters; Frances Alden and Grace Pilot, and 3 brothers; Edward, Thomas and Robert McNamara.
