James Schneider

James Robert Schneider age 71, of Ashley, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril Catholic Church, Bannister, MI, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Bill Gruden officiating.  Burial will take place Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. and on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.  A Rosary Service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

James was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 23, 1944, the son of Robert and Virginia (Snyder) Schneider.  Jim was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School, Owosso and resided most of his life in Ashley and Owosso.  James married Audrey Johnson on July 24, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Onekama, MI.

Jim retired in 1991 from Fisher Body in Lansing.  He loved fishing and hunting.  Spending time with his grandchildren was very important to him.  He and Audrey loved to travel and went to Canada on many fishing trips.  Jim had a great sense of humor and will be remembered fondly for that.  He also was a Little League Baseball coach when his sons played. Jim was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Audrey Schneider of Ashley, MI, 3 sons; David and Christine Schneider of Houghton, MI, Doug and Loretta Schneider of Ashley, MI, Duane and Lyna Schneider of Elsie, MI, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Beverly and William Hedin of Perrinton, MI, Barbara and Joseph Stawicki of Winsted, CT, and brother Thomas Schneider of Lubbock, TX. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
