James Shock Sr

James Louis "Jim" Shock Sr., age 87, of St. Louis, MI passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Jean Ann Thrush officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Garden Cemetery Seville Township, MI. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

James was born in Shepherd, Michigan on January 5, 1928, the son of Nelson and Nyredia (Hartford) Shock. Jim resided most of his life in St. Louis. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Private during WW II. Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and gardening and took great pride in his lawn. He played softball in his younger years. Jim and his family traveled to the U.P. often. Jim retired from General Motors Fisher Body in 1983. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy. Family time was always important to Jim.

He is survived by his son Jim and Christy Shock Jr. of Lake Isabella, MI, daughter Karen and Dave Koutz of Alma, MI, daughter Deb and Mike Bunting of Elwell, MI, son Vern and Alaine Shock Sr. of Alma, MI, son Gary Shock of Gould City, MI, son Robert and Lois Shock of Sumner, MI, daughter Trudy and John DuVall of Riverdale, MI, son Don Shock of St. Louis, MI, 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law; Sarah Shock of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Carol Shock of Charlevoix, MI, and brother-in-law Richard Daymon of DeWitt, MI. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Beverly E. "Bev" Shock on February 27, 2013, grandson Jason Shock, 3 brothers; Garold, Gerald and Junior Shock and 2 sisters; Ruby Thrush and Jean Roels.
