James Edward Simpson, Sr.,

     James Edward Simpson, Sr., age 82, of Elsie, MI passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, with Pastor Carol Kusnier officiating.  Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Elsie, MI.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

     James was born in Owosso, MI on August 10, 1941, the son of Ivan and Wiletta (Wilcox) Simpson.  He was a graduate of Owosso High School with the Class of 1959.  On October 25, 1963, he married Mary L. Cordray at Bannister Methodist Church.

     Jim retired from Alma Products and he also was a farmer.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved anything outdoors.  His family was very important to him.  Jim would help anyone and was always fixing something and working on a project. He had a love of traveling and enjoyed camping. Jim enjoyed watching and feeding birds.  He was a member of Carland United Methodist Church.

     He is survived by his wife Mary Simpson; son James and Edith Simpson, Jr.; daughter Sherry Brown; and son Michael Simpson; 8 grandchildren:  Alesha Clapp, Rebekah Simpson, Kyle Clapp, Mark Simpson, Brandon Simpson, Kristin Palmer, Dominic Switzer, and Gabe Switzer; 15 great-grandchildren.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Elden Simpson.
