James "Jim" K. Smolka, age 39 of New York, New York formerly of St. Louis, Michigan passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at his home in New York, New York.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 31, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Ignatius Ceroute will officiate with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Emerson Township, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Jim was born on November 3, 1964 in Alma, Michigan, the son of Andrew & Nancy ( Toporski ) Smolka. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1982 and then attended Delta College and Burkley School of Music in Boston. Jim was a freelance photographer and traveled throughout the world. He loved music. He also enjoyed his 1964 classic car and traveling to discover nature. Jim was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, Michigan. He resided most of his life in St. Louis until moving to Boston, Paris, France, and New York.
He is survived by his Parents: Andrew & Nancy Smolka of St. Louis, MI, 1 Brother: Edward & Julie Smolka of Florida, 3 Sisters: Jennifer Smolka of Washington D.C., Laura & Harry Manship of Bristol, IN, Carol Smolka of Kalamazoo, MI, FiancAC.e: Constance Giamo of New York, NY
He was predeceased by his grandparents, and an aunt.
Memorials may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice or Sloane Kettering Cancer Research The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
