Jane Marie Sloat, of Ovid, MI, died May 30, 2014 at the age of 86. She was born November 29, 1927 in Flint, MI to William and Florence (Freeman) Vanaerman. On October 28, 1944 Jane married Victor "Pete" Sloat at the Central Methodist Church in Flint and he preceded her in death. She was a past Matron of Morningstar #279 of Ovid, and the Past President of the Clinton County Association of Order of the Eastern Star. Jane became a nurse in 1969 and worked at several hospitals and nursing homes during her career. She was also active in volunteer work and her church, Sonshine Community Church, where she was a long-standing member.
Surviving are her sons; William (Linda) Sloat of Johannesburg, MI, Rick (Betty) Sloat of Elsie, and Robert (Cindy) Sloat of Ovid; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her son; Benny, husband; parents; one brother, William and one sister, Maxine.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid with Pastors Robert Prange and Scott Seelhoff officiating. Burial will follow at Middlebury Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, June 2, 2014 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sonshine Community Church, 2615 N. Ovid Rd., Ovid, MI 48866. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
