Janet Bates

Janet E. Bates, age 69, of Vernon, MI passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Mark Kincaid will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.

Janet was born in Venice Center, Michigan on February 11, 1941, the daughter of Frederick and Eulah (Ryan) Ward. Janet resided most of her life in Vernon and was a graduate of Owosso High School. Janet married David Bates on October 2, 1958. He passed away November 15, 2001. Janet was an Insurance Agent, owner of the Vernon Insurance Agency from 1968 to 1984 then working at Rod Sutton Insurance Agency in Flint until her retirement 4 years ago. She was very giving and caring to the community and active in her church, the Church of Christ.

She is survived by 5 sons; David and Yvette Bates of Roscommon, MI, Donald and Barb Bates of Grawn, MI, Ronald and Deborah Bates of Traverse City, MI, Robert and Elizabeth Bates of Buckley, MI, Christopher and Tammy Bates of Vernon, MI, 20 grandchildren; DJ, LJ, Bianca, Crystal, Naomi, Greg, Kim, Jennifer, Christopher, Eric, Molly, Heather, Andrew, Robert, Jr., Kaitlyn, Courtney, Taylor, Jason, Devon and Destiny, many great-grandchildren, 2 brothers; Frederick and Diane Ward of Oakley, MI, Jerry and Bonnie Ward of Florida, and sister JoAnne and Thomas Fuller of Corunna, MI. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Brandie, and sister Jermaine Ward.
