Janet Betts

Janet Kay Betts, age 73, of Elsie, MI died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, Michigan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., with Fr. Marcel Portelli officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 3-7 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Michigan. Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Janet was born in St. Johns, Michigan on June 18, 1940, the daughter of Donald and Laura (Davis) Jorae. She graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1958. Janet resided most of her life in the Ovid and Elsie area. On February 11, 1961 Janet married James Finley Betts at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns; Jim died on March 13, 2011. Janet was a secretary for Michigan State University in the College of Medicine retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Elsie Red Hats Club, as well as a board member for the Elsie Public Library for many years and a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI. Janet enjoyed spending time at Pretty Lake, Michigan and in Lakeland, Florida.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Brenda Betts of Champaign, IL, Michele Betts of Owosso, MI, 2 grandchildren; Hailee and Noah, 1 sister Camilla and John Vitek of St. Johns, MI, brother Jerry and Mary Jorae of Fowler, MI, sister in law Marcy Jorae of Laingsburg, MI, brothers in law; Bud and Julie Betts of Harrison, MI, Ron and Judy Betts of Owosso, MI, and sister in law Nancy and Reg Gulick of Ithaca, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother Stephen Jorae.
