Jay Elsworth

Jay C. Elsworth age 93, of Henderson, MI, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Herb Wheelock officiating.  Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Elsie, MI.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Jay was born in Mt. Morris, Michigan on January 30, 1923, the son of Walter and Georgia (Vincent) Elsworth.  He was a graduate of Elsie High School and resided most of his life in Grand Blanc and Henderson.  Jay married Bertha Souden on February 16, 1948 in Angola, IN.

Spending time with his family and grandchildren brought him great joy.  Jay enjoyed hunting and traveled for big game hunting.  Jay served his country in the U.S. Army.  He owned Rollhaven Roller Rink in Grand Blanc.  Jay farmed his whole life, even while running the Roller Rink. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Elsie and was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.

Jay is survived by his wife of 68 years Bertha Elsworth of Henderson, MI; son Roger and Hope Elsworth of Davisburg, MI; son Richard and Rebecca Elsworth of Goodrich, MI; daughter Kathy Elsworth- Mahaffy of Grand Blanc, MI; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter.  Jay was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dayle Elsworth and sister Shirley Bates.
