Jeane Alward

Jeane Alward age 92, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Coe Church of Christ, St. Louis, MI on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Mr. Keith Wise officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.

Jeane was born in Alma, MI on June 17, 1924 the daughter of Grove and Esther (Riggs) Peck.  She graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1943.  Jeane married Donald Lee Alward on June 17, 1943 in Alma, MI.  Don passed away in November of 1977.

Jeane and her husband owned and operated St. Louis Roll-Arena for over 50 years and Alward Dairy until 1959. She enjoyed shopping, dancing, and bowling. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the St. Louis Church of Christ, St. Louis, MI.

She is survived by sons; Ron and Julie Alward, David Alward, and Tom Alward, daughters; Bev and Charlie Smith, Barb Frederick, and Helen Alward, foster son Fred and Vera Lonergan, 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, and sister Marylou Zelis. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, son Art, sisters; Helen, Agnes, Betty, and Janet, and brothers; Bud, Dick, Marion, and Kenny.
