Jeanne Isabelle Temple age 84 of St. Johns, Michigan died Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Duplain United Methodist Church, Rochester Colony, MI. Pastor Jayme Kendall & Pastor Fred Fisher will officiate with burial at Duplain Township Cemetery, Duplain Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2004 6-8 P.M. and Monday, December 27, 2004 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 27, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Jeanne was born in Duplain Township, Michigan on June 30, 1920 the daughter of Belford Reeves & Florence ( Acre ) Ewer. She has resided most of her life in Rochester Colony, Duplain Township, MI. She attended and graduated from St. Johns High School, Central Michigan University with a Teaching Certificate and Michigan State University with a Master Degree in Education and Specialist Degree in Special Education. Jeanne married Donald W. Temple on September 7, 1940. He died in 1988. She attended Duplain and Elsie United Methodist Church.
Jeanne was a teacher who touched the lives of many people who passed through her classrooms, both as a rural school teacher (Dennison School, south of Ovid, and others) as well as her many years as a Kindergarten, Special Education and Music teacher at EE Knight Elementary in Elsie and a brief time at the elementary school in Ovid. In addition Jeanne was a gifted pianist and organist who played for the Elsie and Duplain United Methodist churches, countless weddings, funerals and community events and many Eastern Star functions. Jeanne played the piano often at local senior centers, bringing the joy of music to appreciative audiences.
Many, many friends will remember Jeanne as a tireless volunteer with a vast number of community organizations including the Elsie United Methodist Church, the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Elsie Eastern Star Chapter (Worthy Matron and Worthy Grand Organist), Joba�(TM)s Daughters, the Clinton County Historical Society, The Library Club, Retired School Personnel Association, The Friends of the Historic Church at Duplain, the Rochester Colony School Association, Congregational Church Bible Study Group, and a Hobby Club. Jeanne took on many meaningful projects to document and preserve history including recording oral histories of local residents and photographing and cataloging one-room schoolhouses in Michigan. These are just a sampling of her accomplishments and contributions to the community.
Jeanne is survived by 1 son James & Kathy Temple of Sunbury, PA, 1 daughter Mary Temple of Brighton, MI, 6 Grandchildren; Damian & Molly Casey of Grand Rapids, MI, David & Mabel Casey of Hudsonville, MI, Jeff Temple of Chicago, IL, Andrew Temple of Fort Wayne, IN, Sarah & Rachel Fertig of Brighton MI, and 2 great grandchildren Timothy & Meghan Casey. She is predeceased by her husband, and her daughter, Diane Casey in 2003
