Jene Ernest Turner, age 83, of Corunna, MI passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Bessie Hope and Rev. Flora Ash will officiate and interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 10-11 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
Jene was born in Durand, Michigan on August 25, 1925, the son of Ray George and Fern Naomi (Wallace) Turner.
He graduated from Durand High School with the class of 1948 after returning from the Navy. He also attended General Motors Institute in Flint were he earned an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. Jene married Evora Theodora Bullard on July 20, 1946 in Durand, Michigan. Evora passed away in 1994. Jene served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and survived the ship he was on being sunk in the pacific. Jene was very inventive and always liked to help people. He volunteered at the Shiawassee County Fair grounds, helping with the sound system and maintenance. He loved to sing, and when he was in the Navy, he was the opening act for the U.S.O. shows. Jene was an avid computer buff, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Jene resided most of his life in the Durand and Corunna area. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Flint. He also was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4005 in Corunna. He was a member of the Spiritual Episcopal Church in Owosso. Owosso, MI.
He is survived by one daughter Janice and Thomas Shire of Corunna; one son Larry and Carol Turner of Durand; five grandchildren Travis Shire, Christopher and Jennie Bowhall Shire, Troy and Valerie Turner, Brian and Cindy Fairchild, Richard Snook, nine great grandchildren Ian Shire, Raven Shire, Devin Shire, Logan Turner, Breann Turner, Isaac Turner, Victoria Turner, Dre Rodriguez, Christian Rodriguez, Nick Rodriguez, one brother Gary and Carol Turner, one sister-in-law Ilene Turner, special friend Maria Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife in 1994 and two brothers William Turner and Robert Turner.
